"A line is not the shortest distance between two points," (A Wrinkle In Time).

1. What does this quote mean in relation to the novel?
2. Do you think this quote makes sense in the math world? Why or why not?
3. When does/can this quote connect with something in your life or in the lives of mankind. Be specific and provide us with descriptive responses.

1 Mrs.Whatsit is talking about a tesseract and how instead of walking the whole length to shorten it.

2.no because in math a line would be the shortest distance between two points because in math you cant tesser.

3 maybe your driving and the shortest way in not to keep driving straight but maybe to take a shorter route that maybe turns a lot.

1.That they can get somewhere faster if they DONT go in a straight line.
2.No. It defies all of Einstiens equations.
3.I do not see how it really connects to to yhe lives of mankind. Could you help by explaining it to me in a post?

1. That in the long journey to make that there is a shorter path to take.
2. No because lines do not have to be straight to be a line. Because a scwiggle is still a line it is just curved or bent.
3. With my answer for number two I don't know how it connects. I do kind of agree with Kendra's example.

1.A tesser is shorter than a strait line because it is like a telaporter.
2. not realy because a tesser is not math its science.and in the math world a line is the shortest distence between 2 places.
3.if someone created a a telaporter and I got to use it or someone figured a tesser out and I used it.

Q1.this Quote means that two points can be very diffrent but there are obsticles in between.
Q2.No because it is the exact opisit in the math world.
Q3.This quote can connect with mankind because it could make a diffrence in how people think abuot the subject.

1. I think the relation of the novel and the qoute is that when you tesserect you shorten your walk or your transportation to your destination.

2. I think it would not because in the math world a line goes on forever and only a line segment has two points at each end.

3. I think it connects with the lives of mankind because if there was a fork in the road with three points going in three directions and you take the middle road thinking it would be faster then you might be wrong and the other way might in fact be faster.

1. This relates to it because they are trying to go somewhere the fastest way to it.

2. Yes because there might be a shorter way to there.

1.I think relates beacause in the novel they can't just go in a straight line. there are quicker ways to get to a place.also i have a question for everyone who see's this. How many places do you know that you can get to in JUST a straight line?
2.yes beacause it's hard to discibe but it's just math and thats how math works.
3.if your going to the store it's not a straight line no matter what

1.the quote relates to the novel because it is telling you that there are always more than one way to travel.
2.No because in the math world one line is always the shortest line between two points.
3.It connects with something in life because if you wanted to go somewhere and you took the freeway and the next time you went there you took a road then when you took the road it might of took less time.

2.yes beacause it's hard to discibe but basicly a lone doesnt have to be straight it can be curved like how the earth orbits the sun. it has to do with the 4rth dimension and how space time is curved.
3.if your going to the store it's not a straight line no matter what. Also if you were flying from th north pole to the south pole you would be traveling a curved line because you can't go through the earth

2. Yes because it's hard to describe but basically a lone doesn’t have to be straight it can be curved like how the earth orbits the sun. It has to do with the 4rth dimension and how space time is curved.

1.like in tessering they wrinkle the fabric of space and time which can be represented as a strait line

2.no because physis do not allow it

3.it connects to by me taking a lot of short cuts

3. It connects because you can take it by flight it would be alot faster.

1. it means that you could go over the line or through it without going on the whole thing. and it relates to novel because instead of going straight to different planets or places they teser.

2. yes, because the line might be a distance that involves the metric system.

3. it relates with mankind because sometimes mankind just skips through a map, plan, place or (in this case) a line, so it can do it quicker or get there quicker.

1.you can tesser not fly or run or you could shorten it or wrinkle or rip the fabric of time like in the novel.
2.no you cant be shorter then straight lines in math terms.
3.they say in future times you can bend or rip times like teleporting to places rather than fly there.
